My Letter to Taylor Swift

Today, the print copies of Remembrance that I ordered to send to reviewers arrived in the mail! I also plan on sending one of those copies to someone who has had a very important role in this book from the very first word -- Taylor Swift. I found the address for her fanmail, and decided it can't hurt to send her a letter (and book!) and see what happens. So, without further waiting, here is the letter I wrote to her:


Dear Taylor,

I’m not sure if this letter will ever get to you, but if it does, thank you so much for taking the time to read it. I love your music, especially how you’re willing to share so much of your own life through your lyrics. I’ve seen you perform live six times! Your songs address real life issues, and I love that. I find all of your music so inspiring, especially one song in particular—“Love Story” and the music video that goes with it.

You see, the “Love Story” music video inspired my first novel.

The first time I watched the music video, I was entranced. A story started to piece together in my mind—about a girl reincarnated from Regency Era, England, who doesn't realize it until she sees her love from the past for the first time, and he triggers her memories to gradually return to her.

I kept creating more scenes, forming the characters, and making it into something that felt so real. I had never written a novel before, but that semester in school I was taking an Intro to Creative Writing class and decided to write the first chapter for a homework assignment. I was so nervous—I'd never shared my writing with anyone, and I had no idea how my classmates and professor would react.

When everyone in my class told me they loved the first chapter and wanted to know what was going to happen next, I decided I would never know if I could write a novel or not if I didn't put forth the effort and give it a try. So I did. Now, after working on edits with my family, friends, and literary agent, Remembrance is finally available for the public to read and (hopefully) enjoy.

I have no idea if this letter and my novel will ever make it into your hands, but I hope they do. And if you’re reading this right now, and if you decide to read Remembrance, I hope you enjoy it. This novel wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for you, and I thank you so much for inspiring me to write it through your wonderful music. It means the world to me.
